I just got this plant for myself to add some quiet life to my desk. I’m hoping it’ll survive as I’m pretty bad with keeping plants and simple organisms alive (I’ve killed an entire bin colony of red composting worms). I got this plant over in the flower district and after some brief internet research I figure this to be the Kalanchoe plant. Thank god it actually sounds easy to care for but then again, I’ve killed worms and even weeds before.

Spores!
If anyone was following this blog, they will undoubtedly remember that on December 6th, I posted a picture of my newly sprouted basil plant. In an effort to maintain it’s life I put a little glass wine globe over it to keep the moisture in and some of the cold air out. Today when checking on the plant’s status I noticed these other little dudes/dudettes/tranny dudes/tranny dudettes/boi dudes/gay dudes whatever, growing on a dead leaf. eek! Now I have to fight these spores that have infiltrated the safety zone. Any ideas on what to do? I guess it’s interesting to see this little microcosm growing on my window sill, it’s like a 3rd grade science project without the threat of failing. Maybe I’ll move the spore colony to another section of the pot… but based on experience of leaving month old food in the refrigerator my sense is that I will probably regret this little side show side project. They look cute and smurfy now but after a few weeks, yuck?
