So Funkadelic Studios moved their business to another part of Midtown and is still in the midst of their move. I never really cared for their bathroom or studio rooms at their last location (26th street) but their newest location is kind of appalling. The beer can is mine.

Driving in the Rain
Today Phil and I drove up to Connecticut for the holidays. This picture was taken on the FDR in somewhat congested traffic as it was rainy and wet. It’s sad that what would be a 2 hour drive to Connecticut turns out to be 4 hours when the time just to get out of the city is accounted for. We’re staying there for a week and we’re taking the dog and cat with us! It’ll be a relaxing time with lots of food in a nice spacious house, except no wi-fi which means sporadic updates to the blog. What did I do before wi-fi? Watch McGyver, play dress-up, make candles with crayons and blazing mini-fires in my room and write angry, rhetorical questions in my hello kitty journal, I guess.

Chinatown
With the sleet and rain over, it’s nice to be chilly without being miserable. This is Mr. Tang’s restaurant in Chinatown. I guess it’s considered a tourist kind of restaurant, but they have an awesome beef with walnut and snowpeas dish that I haven’t seen anywhere else in the neighborhood, and it’s just 6 flights of hopping and skipping down the steps from where I live!

Shop for sneakers while calling your mom
I spotted this today as I was walking up Broadway on my way to Korea Town to do a little Christmas shopping. This area within 28th and Broadway, although also near the Flower District is the place where people go to buy wholesale knockoffs, like bags and apparently, sneakers. The sidewalk is filled with cheap clothes on racks and people lugging huge garbage bags full of stuff. For some bizarre reason some guy selling his Air Gordons thought that the phone booth was an appropriate place to display his goods?

Time to put up the decorations
Remember when everyone used to decorate their college dorm rooms with Christmas lights and it was cool and hippie? Today I put up the Christmas lights on our sixth floor balcony, I mean our fire escape overlooking Chinatown. I’m not a hardcore or for that matter even vaguely enthusiastic patron about holiday decorating (although I have a secret stash of Christmas ornaments… Christmas ornaments are the neatest doodads ever after wind-up toys) but putting up lights on the balcony is preeetty! It’s actually not really for the holiday season that I put the lights up, since I’m going to keep the lights up all year round. I just put them up today because I thought it would be a nice picture to take with the slate sky in the background.
