I got this special ornament from Macy’s a few years ago. Anyone who would think to make a NYC pigeon as a bobble head ornament and then follow through on that brilliant idea, is a true genius. Happily this Rock Dove, Flying Rat makes an appearance this year because of the tree at the Avery’s. Does anyone notice adorable baby Pill among the other decorations?

Indoor Sports
Ah bowling! I haven’t gone bowling since my college days of living in Cow Town, PA when I was a young undergraduate brainwashed Christian at Penn State University. That being said, I hold fond memories of bowling as it reminds me of the things that I missed out on by growing up in the city as opposed to the suburbs. Pill and I went bowling and it was really fun. Although even with this timeless indoor sport, there is still a sense of how one changes as they grow older. Pill said it best when he said, “I don’t like these new web 2.0 scoring screens,” because they were too fancy looking and made it too easy to decipher your score. For me I felt it in my bones, slight aching in the knuckles just from throwing the bowling balls.

White and Gray Snow
It’s cool that there’s a lot more snow in Connecticut than in New York City. But snow is snow and it still gets yucky and gross looking when there are cars around.

Lime Cranberries
Pill’s mom got a good deal on limes at the store. Most people don’t use limes in bulk unless they’re drinking a whole lot of Corona beer. Nobody’s drinking Coronas at the Avery house this year, so these limes are being used as a neato centerpiece along with cranberries.

Driving in the Rain
Today Phil and I drove up to Connecticut for the holidays. This picture was taken on the FDR in somewhat congested traffic as it was rainy and wet. It’s sad that what would be a 2 hour drive to Connecticut turns out to be 4 hours when the time just to get out of the city is accounted for. We’re staying there for a week and we’re taking the dog and cat with us! It’ll be a relaxing time with lots of food in a nice spacious house, except no wi-fi which means sporadic updates to the blog. What did I do before wi-fi? Watch McGyver, play dress-up, make candles with crayons and blazing mini-fires in my room and write angry, rhetorical questions in my hello kitty journal, I guess.
