I don’t know bout you but Cubic Zirconia look damn good.

ring-2

ring-1

Can you tell which is a real diamond and which is the cubic zirconian?

Can you tell which ring(s) are junk box jewelry from where I work and which is from a (thankfully) failed engagement I had with someone from a long time ago?

Can you tell which photo was taken with a samsung point and shoot digital and the other photo with a canon rebel x dslr (although both were photoshoped in post-production)?

Can you tell which one is sold at Zales and which one is sold at Forever 21?

Can you tell which one costs $5000 and which one costs $5.99?

Can you tell which one people die for in Africa and which one people in China make for 5 cents a day?

*UPDATE*

As requested, here are the non-retouched images:

no fair! can you post the pre-photoshopped pics?
(how come i don’t already know what your engagement ring looks like?!)

Okay I’ll post the pre-photoshop picts but they’re actually not too different… i just did color correction and adjusted the contrast.

I think at the time when I had the engagement ring no one cared about what the ring looked like because we were all too young and more occupied with drinking than w/ wedding planning?

uh… shit. the pic w/the single ring is shot w/the DSLR & has the real daimond? the retouched pics look so much sparklier, that’s pretty cool! those are 3 different rings right? i’m trying SO HARD not to go to the zales website & cheat! is it easier to tell which is which in person?

I love this post because there are so many questions, I’m bound to get one right! Aren’t there three rings in two pictures? This is very difficult for me to process right now. I can guarantee myself one point by guessing that the Zales diamond cost $6, right?

I think the little one cost $5k from Zales, and utilizes a conflict diamond to nice overall effect.

wow! you guys are both right!!! yes, the single ring pict is the real diamond shot w/ a dslr, and the two rings in one picture are both cubic zirconian. I don’t have the real diamond ring anymore, who’siewhatsit took it back, but I’ve been checking out my friend’s engagement rings and think that it would be easier to tell the difference in person. Diamonds still sparkle like crazy in super dim light, but for cubic zirconia I had to take that photo in a really bright spot of sunlight just to get it to reflect so much.

I should also clarify that the cost of the diamond/cz should be considered in retail value, because otherwise the zales diamond probably does cost (them) 6 bucks!
