Lime Cranberries

Pill’s mom got a good deal on limes at the store. Most people don’t use limes in bulk unless they’re drinking a whole lot of Corona beer. Nobody’s drinking Coronas at the Avery house this year, so these limes are being used as a neato centerpiece along with cranberries.

Mia Super Dog

This is Mia the dog, cared for by Pill, the human, with occasional caring by me, the girlfriend. Mia is a great dog with smart eyes and jaunty ears. She has a tolerance for pain that would be considered impressive in a reality TV show for humans.

Driving in the Rain

Today Phil and I drove up to Connecticut for the holidays. This picture was taken on the FDR in somewhat congested traffic as it was rainy and wet. It’s sad that what would be a 2 hour drive to Connecticut turns out to be 4 hours when the time just to get out of the city is accounted for. We’re staying there for a week and we’re taking the dog and cat with us! It’ll be a relaxing time with lots of food in a nice spacious house, except no wi-fi which means sporadic updates to the blog. What did I do before wi-fi? Watch McGyver, play dress-up, make candles with crayons and blazing mini-fires in my room and write angry, rhetorical questions in my hello kitty journal, I guess.

Lower East Side, ii

The Lower East Side, all the way by the East River and all the way by Frank’s Bike Shop on Grand feels like historical, humble immigrant Manhattan mixed with the second generation luxuriousness of Forest Hills, Queens.   There are no-nonsense delis run by Orthodox Jews, unpretentious families out and about and the red brick apartment architecture ubiquitous in most “suburban” Queens neighborhoods.  Even the streets are a little wider and it feels like a real neighborhood, meaning that one could possibly live there without the pressure to look like they are dressed to impress rival rock bands and the population reflects the actual general population: old and young and not just young and rich.  It’s a secret gem of a neighborhood for parking and hopefully it will not turn into the other side of the Lower East Side that I mention in a past blog.

Foggy Mirror

A self reflection of myself after a rare shower during the day. Showering during the day is nice because it feels like I’m also bathing in sunlight since my bathroom is bright and sunny. Showers in the day also elicit from people the response of, “Did you do something different to your hair?” “Did you cut your hair?” or more succinctly, “You look different.” Apparently there is a vast difference between showering in the morning to showering before bed of which I’m usually the latter.
